Bradford based charity Solace Housing Association is delighted to announce that they are now registered as a non- profit social housing provider!
Becoming a social housing provider means that the Solace Housing Association can start to build it’s housing stock. It is currently looking to purchase its next multiple occupancy property, aiming to provide temporary safe accommodation to survivors subjected to domestic abuse and sexual violence.
Solace Housing Association is a subsidiary company of Staying Put Group, a domestic abuse and sexual violence charity working in Bradford and the surrounding areas.
Yasmin Khan, CEO of Staying Put Group stated: ‘This is such a significant achievement, with exceptional leadership from the Staying Put and Solace boards as well as our very hard working and dedicated team. Thank you to everyone for your support in assisting us to achieve this milestone. We look forward to being able to provide social housing to all survivors of domestic abuse and sexual violence.’
According to Simon on the Streets, figures from 2017 show 10% of all homeless applications were a result of a violent relationship. However, those fleeing domestic abuse fall into the category of ‘hidden homelessness’- where people lack stable housing but are not sleeping on the streets.
Solace Housing are now hoping to be able to provide more suitable properties to people who are leaving an abusive relationship and struggling to find suitable properties.
