There are many things to celebrate this year on International Women’s Day.

Firstly, we want to celebrate and thank our exceptional, dedicated and trauma informed staff for their dedication and hard work this last year. Without them, their enthusiasm and passion we would not be able to support the people we support.

Secondly, we want to thank you for your support. Whether you have attended one of our groups, shared your story or taken part in fundraising for us, you are central to everything we do.

Finally, recent gains for domestic abuse and sexual violence include measures to make misogyny a hate crime, the Mayors and Deputy Mayors relentless commitment to ending violence against women and girls, introduction of domestic abuse specialists in 999 control rooms and the Governments pledges to halve violence against women and girls in the next 10 years.

Sadly, we also witnessed the brutal murder of Kulsuma Akter in front of her baby son, in our city. We can also understand why on International Women’s Day you might feel down hearted or overwhelmed with international events. Whether that’s wars, politics or the cost of living crisis, sometimes it can feel like women’s rights are being pushed back.

Our message is- we’re still here and we’re still fighting to end violence against women and girls. We still believe that women subjected to domestic abuse and sexual violence should be heard and helped. But we can only do that with your support. Here’s how to help.

Look after yourself, first.
The global stage is overwhelming, make your world smaller. Whilst it’s great to be informed, give yourself a break from the constant scrolling of news. Only follow news outlets that you trust and only check stories once a day, if at all. Make your wellbeing your top priority.
