We hope that you will never need to call our One Front Door phoneline. It is open to anybody who needs help – whether you are a survivor, a friend or family member of someone who needs help, a professional who needs advice for a client, or are worried about your own behaviour.
Why do we have One Front Door?
The idea behind One Front Door is that anyone experiencing domestic abuse or sexual violence can call one number and receive help. It is a single point of contact and is run as part of the Bradford Survive and Thrive partnership, along with WomenCentre and Family Action.
This means that when one person calls the phoneline, they tell their story once and get the help they need.
One Front Door isn’t just about calls, however – it also covers webchat and emails. In 2022-2023, we received a total of 21,000 contacts through the One Front Door.
What happens when someone calls the OFD
‘When you call the One Front Door, your call will be answered by a trained domestic abuse practitioner. They will ask you questions to help us understand what’s going on and how to help.” States Dina, One Front Door Manager. ‘We will also, and this is very important to us, ask how you would like us to help. We won’t pressure you to do anything you don’t want to do, but will support you the best way we can.’
One of the ways we can support you is to work with relevant partner agencies. For example, we’d speak to Family Action if you had children who also needed support. Before we do anything, we’d run it past you first to ensure you’re happy with this.
Working with partner agencies ensures that you get the best help and means that you’re not having to tell your story over and over again.
What happens after you call?
That’s up to you. We put you at the centre of what we do and we just want to support you. You can decide what you want to do, or even that you don’t want to do anything.
What’s it like working on One Front Door?
‘Our One Front Door team is fantastic,’ says Dina ‘They are passionate about what they do. There’s a real team spirit and a great atmosphere. Everyone just wants what’s best for our service users.’
