Safer Steps is an inclusive service supporting adults and children in West Yorkshire to stay safe from stalking.

Safer Steps is currently for individuals experiencing stalking within a domestic abuse context, perpetrated by a current or former partner or family member.

Currently, the service is only taking self-referrals and West Yorkshire Police referrals. Over the coming months, the service will expand to support people affected by all forms of stalking an open up further referral pathways.

Safer Steps provides support for both stalking that happens in-person and stalking that is facilitated by technology, known as cyberstalking.

Our experienced team of Independent Stalking Advocates (ISAs) provide practical help with safety planning, act as a liaison between the victim-survivor and agencies like the police and help navigate the complex judicial system.

We also have specialist children and young people workers to work with young people and connect them with other relevant services.

Funded by the West Yorkshire Combined Authority, Safer Steps is delivered by the West Yorkshire Stalking Support Hub (WYSSH), a partnership between Leeds Women’s Aid, Staying Put, Women Centre and Pennine Domestic Abuse Partnership.

This partnership has decades of combined experience in supporting people affected by domestic abuse, stalking and harassment, and brings a wealth of expertise in help
