Earlier this month, runners from Bettys Ilkley Tea Rooms ran the Leeds Half Marathon, raising £400!
Becky Gilmour and Chloe Allatt from Bettys trained for two months to run in the event. “Running a half marathon was completely new to Chloe and she did amazingly well and zoomed of in front of me early on in the course, she normally does strength training in the gym, whereas I have always done a bit of running!” Explains Becky.
Each year, each Bettys branch chooses a charity to fundraise for the year. These are nominated by people within the branch for a variety of reasons, mainly being that the charity is close to their heart from either previous experience or close family and friends. The team then vote which charity they would like to support. This year, they chose Staying Put.
The run itself was challenging- it was a warm day but the incredible atmosphere carried them through. But it seems Chloe now has the running bug: “Chloe is keen to do it again next year definitely! I have decided to run Edinburgh marathon next year (don’t ask me why?!!) so will be giving the Leeds half a miss as it is slightly too close to it!!”
